Kwan Kwan 管管

AT DUSK
黃昏*

Translated by David van der Peet 范德培

Fallen out of love, heart heavy, that tender hand has strewn
      petals across the sky
     Across the whole sky
The tiny swallows cannot carry them off, no matter how
      often they rush
     back and forth

A little tabby cat is sitting next to the flower-engraved
      clock, washing its whiskers
Washing them with its paws as it quietly watches the
      sunshine fade
     On the latticed window

Since the girl filled her last bottle, the ripples have died
     down on the water’s surface
Dusk has been herding the gathering night
Darkness slowly creeping back out of the shadows of the
     church walls

Since the girl filled her last bottle, the ripples have died
down on the water’s surface
Dusk has been herding the gathering night
Darkness slowly creeping back out of the shadows of the
church walls

Always feeling somewhat worried about those impish little
      ones
     Jumping into the water
Diving in, an arc of silver, disappearing for a long, long time
Diving in, an arc of silver, going deep, very deep
